Vivian “Jeannie” Coeur, 65 of Hamilton, IL, went home to her Lord on Thursday, October 26, 2023. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., on Friday, November 3, at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, November 2, at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Vivian was born January 2, 1958, in Joy, the daughter of Lyle and Evelyn (Carlson) Nelson. She was formerly married to Robert Coeur.
Vivian was co-valedictorian of her Westmer Senior class of 1976.
Vivian was a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education from WIU, and a Master’s Degree in Counselor Education. She began her career in Carthage, IL, as a mental health counselor at Hancock County. After 20 years of service, she went to Western Illinois University as Clinical Professional Counselor for the Alcohol and Drug Resource Center.
She was a member of Hamilton United Methodist Church where she played organ for Hamilton and Warsaw Churches. Vivian was the music director and founded and led the Hamilton United Methodist Bell Choir.
Vivian’s favorite activities were times with her family of which she was forever grateful, her faith and friends, plus her rescue cats and playing piano. Vivian enjoyed collecting antique instruments and she made the most gorgeous decorative chocolates.
She is survived by her son, Will (Sarah) Coeur, Ankeny, IA; siblings, Patricia Carlson, Taylor Ridge, IL, Stan (Paula) Nelson, Joy, IL, and Janet (Terry) Zink, Rock Island, IL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Pete Carlson.
