Sherrard (0-1) committed 27 turnovers in a 69-39 girls basketball season-opening loss to Sterling (1-0) at Harry Hunt Gymnasium Monday.
The Tigers opened the game on a 6-0 run. The Golden Warriors answered by scoring 14 straight. Sherrard closed the gap to 30-27 at halftime.
Sterling went on to outscore Sherrard 25-6 in the third quarter and 39-12 in the second half overall. The Tigers were forced into 17 second-half turnovers, 14 in the third quarter alone.
Joslynn James scored a game-high 12 points for the Golden Warriors. Delali Amankwa, 11, Jae James, 11, and Nia Harris, 10, also were in double figures for Sterling.
Grace Bohnert led Sherrard with 9 points.
