Sherrard fell to Sterling 11-2 in softball action Wednesday night. In the only other action Alleman beat Erie-Prophetstown 8-2. In baseball Alleman was also a winner over the Panthers 7-2. On the soccer pitch, Orion-Sherrard United went to 2-0 on the season with a 6-1 win over LaSalle-Peru. Jamie Abbott recorded a three goal hat trick and Karsyn McCunn added two goals.
Mercer County has named Erica Biddle their new varsity volleyball coach and Peter Nelson was named the Cross Country coach. All the other Golden Eagles winter coaches were rehired, Kate Engwall varsity girls basketball coach, Mike Jones varsity boys basketball coach and Steve Speaker varsity wrestling coach.
