Local State Rep. Dan Swanson sponsoring legislation establishing the Honor and Remember Flag as the official flag in Illinois for honoring all fallen servicemen and serivicewomen. Other states are moving forward with similar legislation. Swanson testified in the House Veteran’s Committee on Tuesday.
Swanson’s bill was approved in the Veteran’s Committee with an amendment that the Honor and Remember Flag shall not be flown above or take precedence over the United States national flag, the Illinois State flag, or a POW/MIA flag. Additionally, an Honor and Remember Flag displayed under the Act must be manufactured in the United States. The bill now heads to the House floor for debate.
