Warren County’s sheriff isn’t sure when he’ll be able to reopen his jail. Sheriff Martin Edwards told county leaders Thursday that he can’t open the jail until he has enough guards to safely patrol the facility. Edwards shut down his jail this week after a pair of guards left to take other jobs. Warren County leaders are looking find the money to pay new jail guards more, but aren’t sure when they’ll find it or where it will come from. In the meantime, Warren County inmates will continue to flow to the Mercer County Jail, where Mercer County will receive $40 per day per inmate.
