Sherrard (19-8) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Rockridge (20-13) 5-4 and win a regional championship at Sunny Lane Field in Monmouth Saturday.
Brady Peterson delivered a walk-off sacrifice fly with the bases loaded and one out. Rockridge loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the seventh inning in a 4-4 game, but could not score to take the lead.
Harrison Curry was 2-4 with a solo home run to lead off the game for the Tigers. Brylan Bender went 2-3 with two RBI in the win.
Brady Peterson was the winning pitcher for Sherrard, allowing four runs (one earned) over seven innings. He’s now 8-1.
Owen Steele went 3-3 with an RBI in the loss for Rockridge.
Sherrard advances to play Eureka (31-4) in the sectional semifinals in Chillicothe on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The second semifinal will feature IVC (23-10) taking on Peoria Notre Dame (16-17) on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
