Sherrard Sweeps Orion, Takes 2 Game Lead In TRAC West Race

Sherrard completed a regular-season sweep of Orion with a 61-51 win on the road on Friday.

The Chargers (18-7, 5-2 TRAC West) jumped out to their largest lead of the night, 14-7, midway through the first quarter after making four of their first five three-point attempts. Sherrard closed the gap to 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and had the game tied 26-26 at halftime.

The Tigers (17-4, 7-0 TRAC West) led by as many as five points in the third quarter, 35-30, before Orion closed the period on an 8-0 run to take a 38-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

With the game tied 44-44 with 4:15 left, Ryder Veronda buried a corner three for Sherrard, which took a lead it would hold for the rest of the night. Carter Brown and Nolan Kline combined for 16 points in the fourth quarter to put the game away for the Tigers.

Brown led Sherrard with 17 points, while Kline added 15. Ryder Veronda, 14, and Byrlan Bender, 10, also scored in double figures for the Tigers.

Kyler Owens netted a game-high 18 points for Orion. Will Clarke scored 10 points in the loss.

Sherrard has won 10 straight games and now holds a two-game lead in the TRAC West with three games left to play in the league.
