Riverdale defeated Sherrard 6-0 in the championship of the IHSA 2A Alleman Softball Regional on Saturday.
With the game scoreless in the bottom of the fourth inning, Riverdale sophomore Brooklyn Peterson hit a solo home run, which was the Rams’ first hit of the day, to go ahead 1-0. Riverdale would score later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Amaya Lopez-Hernandez to extend its lead to 2-0.
The Rams blew the game open with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Danika Sadoris was the winning pitcher for Riverdale, allowing just two hits with six strikeouts in seven scoreless innings. Peterson’s home run was her 23rd of the season.
Jozlyn Kuffler had both of Sherrard’s (15-12) hits in the loss.
Riverdale advances to play Eureka (21-6) in Brimfield on Tuesday.
