Saturday Sports: MerCo, Rockridge & Sherrard Send Wrestlers To Sectional

Local sports results are presented by MercyOne Genesis Physical Therapy.

Mercer County, Rockridge and Sherrard all sent multiple individuals to the sectional round, as the IHSA boys wrestling postseason started on Saturday at the IHSA 1A Riverdale Regional in Port Byron.

Mercer County 165-pounder Eli Burns claimed an individual regional championship, while 113-pounder Boston Morford and 157-pounder Eli Boswell also advanced with runner-up finishes.

Rockridge has six competitors moving on, led by Nate Lower at 113 pounds and Thomas Sowards at 157 pounds, who each won regional titles. 165-pounder Ryan Lower and 285-pounder Tanner McKeag took second place in their weight classes, and 132-pounder Clayton Blumenstein and 144-pounder Klay Goodnight moved on with third-place finishes.

Sherrard is sending six individuals to the sectional. 190-pounder Cooper Thomas earned a runner-up finish, and five Sherrard individuals took third place – Jonathan Weakely (215 pounds), Gideon Heist (175 pounds), Kaden Dutton (165 pounds), Quinn Zimmerman (157 pounds), and Andrew Knox (150 pounds).

All local competitors who advanced will compete at the 1A Byron Sectional on Feb. 13.

Morrison won the team regional title and will compete at the 1A Oregon Dual Team Sectional on Thursday.
