One of two defendants charged in a Mercer County murder investigation has been released from police custody. It’s due to Illinois’ Safe-T Act says Mercer County State’s Attorney Grace Simpson. The case involves a drug induced death in rural Sherrard.
41-year-old William DeWitt of Milan and 52-year-old Susan McFalls of Colona were arrested this week following an investigation that began last December. According to a Mercer County Sheriff’s Department press release, DeWitt is charged with 1st Degree Murder and Drug Induced Homicide and McFalls is charged with 1st Degree Murder (accountability) and Drug Induced Homicide (accountability). McFalls has been released while DeWitt remains in custody.
DeWitt returns to court May 7 with McFalls back in court on May 13.
The victim in the case is identified as Anthony Qualls of rural Sherrard. He was pronounced dead by Mercer County Coroner Greg Larson last Dec. 22.
