The Rockridge Rockets took their first step to defending their state championship by winning their fifth regional championship in a row, defeating Mercer County 10-0 in six innings to win the Class 2A Knoxville Regional. The game was scoreless through the first three innings but the Rockets took a 1-0 lead in the fourth and then with the aid of some Golden Eagle miscues plated seven runs in the fifth to pull away. Amelia Thomas gave up one hit in six innings to get the win. Rockridge improved to 29-6 and advances to the Brimfield Sectional where they will play Quincy Notre Dame, a 5-2 winner over Illini West at the Illini West Regional. The Raiders are 28-6 on the year. At the Rushville Regional, Midwest Central beat Beardstown 10-3. The is no report from the Tremont Regional.
Orion’s regional championship game at the Mendota Regional against the host Trojans was postponed until today (Saturday) at 1 p.m.
The Mercer County vs. Orion and the Sherrard vs. Knoxville regional championship games for today (Saturday) have been postponed until Monday.
