Rockets Season Ends In Second Round Loss To Seneca

Rockridge (9-2) saw its 2023 season end in a 47-14 loss to Seneca (11-0) in the second round of the IHSA 2A playoffs Saturday.

The Fighting Irish scored on their first play from scrimmage on a 65-yard touchdown run by Nathen Neal to take a 6-0 lead with 8:54 left in the first quarter. Rockridge answered with a three-yard touchdown pass from Cullen Schwigen to Owen Steele on fourth and goal to put the Rockets ahead 7-6 with 5:23 to play in the first.

Seneca then scored 41 unanswered points to take control of the game. The Fighting Irish compiled 411 yards of total offense, 359 of which were rushing yards. Neal led Seneca with 108 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Seneca quarterback Paxton Giertz rushed for 47 yards and a score to go along with 5-7 passing for 52 yards and two touchdowns.

Alex Zarlatanes paced Rockridge with 108 rushing yards on 17 carries.

Seneca advances to play Wilmington (10-1) in the 2A quarterfinals next week.
