A solar farm project in Mercer County is celebrating its completion.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the Goldenrod Solar Project outside of Viola on Tuesday. The five-megawatt, 38-acre solar array is projected to deliver $5.8 million in community benefits over the next 15 years. The project is offering 850 local solar subscribers up to $3.6 million in lower energy costs through 10-20% in electricity bill savings. To learn more about subscribing, visit here.
Chicago-based Cultivate Power completed the project. Representative Kiera Gavin says they’ve committed $600,000 in scholarships, grants, and contributions to local Mercer County organizations.
In addition, Cultivate Power says property tax benefits from the project are estimated to exceed $360,000 in the first 15 years of the project, which will benefit the Sherrard School District, Greene Township Fire Protection District, and the Viola Public Library District.
