Plambeck Sentenced In June; Guilty Of 11 Animal Cruelty Counts

A Sherrard woman found guilty of 11 felony animal cruelty counts. The verdict was rendered Wednesday afternoon by Judge Matthew Durbin in the case of 60-year-old Karen Plambeck. She will be sentenced June 10.

Four days of testimony were heard last week in Mercer County Circuit Court. Mercer County State’s Attorney Grace Simpson spoke with WRMJ following Wednesday’s ruling.

Plambeck was charged following an August of 2022 investigation where 198 dogs were rescued from her property.

All 198 dogs were forfeited to the care of Mercer County Animal Control. Over $170,000 worth of veterinary and boarding costs were introduced as evidence in a court hearing in September of 2022.
