Patricia Ann Lane – Services 10/21/23

Patricia Ann Lane, 89 of New Windsor, Illinois, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, October 20, at the New Windsor Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, October 21, also at the New Windsor Presbyterian Church. Interment will be at Petrie Cemetery in New Windsor. Memorials may be left to the New Windsor Presbyterian Church. Online condolences can be left at

Patricia was born August 8, 1934, in Milledgeville, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence Abner and Evelyn Miller Howe. She married Charles Austin Lane on December 30, 1956, in Sterling, Illinois. He passed away April 21, 2004.

After graduating from Sterling High School in 1952, Patricia received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Illinois State Normal University in 1956. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Western Illinois University in 1988. Patricia began her career teaching history and Physical Education, later transitioning to Head Librarian and Media Specialist in the Sherrard School District.

She enjoyed golfing, bowling, sewing, playing bridge, collecting Fisher Price antiques, and Cardinal baseball. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye and she adored every second with them. She also greatly enjoyed the many family gatherings and events she helped plan. She was a member of the New Windsor Presbyterian Church where she was active in the choir and Women’s Guild. Patricia was an IHSA referee for girls’ volleyball and basketball for several years, she loved spending time at the family cabin in the Wisconsin Northwoods, and was known to be a world class shopper.

She is survived by four children, Charles Allen (Robyn) Lane of Edwardsville, Lisabeth (Jeff) Engwall of Sherrard, Amy Jo Lane of Palatine, and Thomas (Kelli) Lane of Bethalto; eight grandchildren, Kyle, Alex, Adrienne, Allison, Jordan, Brett, David, and Grant; two great-grandchildren, James and Charles; two sisters, Donna (George) McCue of Fairbury and Mary Jane Ludwig of Freeport; and two sisters-in-law, Georgia Howe of Sterling and Martha Ann Jones of Walnut Hill. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Alan “Butch” Howe; and granddaughter, Emma Engwall.
