Rockridge opened its 2026 high school baseball season with an 11-3 loss to Newman at home on Friday.
The Rockets (0-1) led 2-1 at the end of the second inning, but then allowed 10 unanswered runs. The Comets (1-0) scored four runs in the top of the third inning, one in the fourth, and five more in the fifth to blow the game open.
Rockridge pitchers allowed 11 walks in the loss.
Jameson Hanlon and Cooper Speas each drove in two runs for Newman.
Cullen Schwigen hit an inside-the-park home run and drew two walks in the loss for Rockridge.
Drake Cole was the winning pitcher for Newman after allowing two earned runs over three innings.
Schwigen took the loss for the Rockets. He gave three runs (two earned) in two innings.
