Mercer County Unemployment Rate Remains Below Statewide Average

The Mercer County unemployment rate at 3.3 percent. The number is for October and compares to a 4.8 percent figure recorded the same time a year ago, according to data released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Unemployment is also down year over year in Henderson, Henry, Knox, Rock Island and Warren counties.
In the region, total nonfarm employment increased by 5,700 compared to October 2020. The Professional-Business Services (-500), and Retail Trade (-400) sectors recorded the largest employment declines compared to one year ago.  The Manufacturing (+1,500), Educational-Health Services (+1,300), Government (+1,300), and Construction (+1,200) sectors reported the largest payroll gains.
The unemployment rate identifies those who are out of work and seeking employment. A person who exhausts benefits, or is ineligible, still will be reflected in the unemployment rate if they actively seek work.
Statewide, the unemployment rate is 5.0 percent.
