The Mercer County unemployment rate sits at 4.8 percent. The number is for December and represents a 1.4 percent improvement from the same period a year ago, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Unemployment is also lower from year over year levels in Henderson, Henry, Knox, Rock Island and Warren Counties mainly due to employment gains in the Educational-Health Services, Construction and Manufacturing sectors. Statewide, the unemployment rate is at 4.7 percent says IDES spokesperson Bob Gough.
The national unemployment rate is at 3.9 percent. The highest unemployment rate in the region is 6.1 percent in Fulton and Stark Counties.
