Here’s a local history lesson. A survivor of the RMS Titanic tragedy in April of 1912 would eventually wind up in Biggsville and then be hired as Aledo High School principal the following fall. The story of Albert Caldwell and his wife and infant son is documented by relative and author Julie Hedgepeth Williams in the book “A Rare Titanic Family: The Caldwell’s Story of Survival”. She spoke with WRMJ News Director Jim Taylor back in 2012 when the book was published.
Albert and Sylvia Caldwell would later divorce and she eventually would marry the founder of State Farm. Albert died in 1977. Sylvia passed away in 1965. Son Alden died in 1992.
Williams is a professor at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.
