A Mercer County student wins grand champion honors at the Junior Livestock Show held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds last weekend. 10-year old Reese Marlow showed the grand champion doe at the meat goat show. She is a 5th grader at Mercer Intermediate School and a member of the Joy-Eliza 4-H Club.
Both the Illinois State Fair and Du Quoin State Fair were canceled this year, but Jerry Costello, Acting Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture wanted to give youth like Marlow the opportunity to exhibit their livestock projects at the state level.
Junior Horse Shows were held at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds Aug. 29-30 and Sept. 5-6. Junior Livestock Shows were held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield Sept 11-13 and Sept. 18-20. Costello says the livestock numbers were about 50-percent of the normal state fair shows.
