George D. Gritton – Graveside Services 6/7/23

George D. Gritton, 100 of Aledo, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, at his home. Graveside services, with military rites, will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, at Aledo Cemetery. Nichols Bewley Funeral and Cremation Services, Aledo, is caring for George’s family and arrangements. Memorials may be left to the education fund established for his great-granddaughters. George was born December 6, 1922, in Eliza Township, IL, the son of Joseph and Vivian Pearson Gritton. He married Marion Jean Tary on February 22, 1947, in Aledo, IL.

He was a US Army veteran of WWII. He had worked in the quality control department at John Deere prior to retirement and was a past member of Good Sam’s Camping.

George loved Polka music, sharing stories of his times flying airplanes, riding motorcycles, and his time spent in the US Army. His happiest moments were spent with his family.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his daughter, Marilyn Heaton of Aledo; grandchildren, Ryan Leihsing of Aledo and Stephanie (Joshua) Mader of Rock Island; two great-granddaughters, Stella and Ruby Mader, both at home; one sister, Dorothy Smith of Aledo; and a special niece, Denise Hampton of Aledo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion in 1997; and grandson, Tommy Leihsing in 1986.
