The Eldridge Police Department has released the police report in the aftermath of the drunk driving arrest of Mercer County School District superintendent Scott Petrie. He was taken into custody Saturday night following a complaint of “a white or silver Ford pickup that was all over the road and almost hit several cars and was speeding up and slowing down.”
An officer was then dispatched and noticed the truck failing to maintain its lane. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop with lights flashing, but the suspect vehicle traveled another mile before pulling onto the shoulder of the road, according to the report. The driver was identified as Petrie and the officer indicated a very strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The officer administered a walk and turn test and concluded that eight out of eight clues of impairment were observed. He followed that with a one leg stand where four out of four clues of impairment were observed. Petrie refused to take a preliminary breath test, according to the report. He is charged with OWI first offense, no registration, no insurance and failure to yield—all misdemeanor offenses in Iowa. Petrie posted $1,000 bond Sunday and has a court date set for Tuesday.
