Edwina L. Wright, 82 of Seaton, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at her home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery, rural Seaton. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Crisis Center or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Edwina Lee was born on December 24, 1940, in Monmouth, Illinois, to Edwin and Vivian (Henry) Douglas. She married William A. Wright on June 11, 1961, in Seaton. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2020.
Edwina was the director of the Mercer County Housing Authority until her retirement, upon which she volunteered in many compacities including at the Mercer County Crisis Center. Edwina devoted her life to her family and enjoyed watching her children’s sporting events and doting on her grandchildren. In later years she enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel and the Game Show Network, Swedish embroidery, and going out and about with her sister, Marilyn. Edwina had just attended her 65th class reunion of the Aledo High School Class of 1958, where she enjoyed catching up with all her classmates.
Those left to cherish Edwina’s memory include her children: Edina Wright of Seaton, William A. Wright, Jr. and Karen Sayre of Mediapolis, Iowa, Doug and Kelly Wright of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and Mera and Chad McLean of West Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren: William A. Wright III, Cody, Kellen, and Grady Wright, Annie, Carli, and Tommy Dryer, and Evangeline, Josiah, Micah, Judah, and Elizabeth McLean; and siblings: Marilyn Hollembaek of Seaton and Buzz and Sandy Douglas of New Boston. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
