Edward “Porky” Robert Haynie, 78 of The Villages, Florida, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, December 28, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, with visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Private inurnment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Taylor Ridge, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in care of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
Ed was born on July 13, 1945, in Moline, Illinois, to the late Albert “Speed” and Dorothy (Welvaert) Haynie. Ed graduated midterm from Moline High School just prior to leaving for the U.S. Army. After his military service, he worked in the auto-body business which led to a career in sales and management for Automotive Finishes, a division of Iowa Glass.
Ed fondly remembered big, crowded family dinners at his grandparents’ home, where after many warnings of being underfoot, he and his cousins gathered under his grandparents’ bed to giggle and tell stories. He enjoyed golf, playing cards, cruise ship traveling, eating out, and spending time with his many friends.
Ed was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Summerfield, Florida.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Janet; sons, Andrew (Barb) Spencer, Scott (Diana) Haynie, Dale (Tracie) Spencer, and Timothy (Kristy) Haynie; grandchildren, Ellie Wietholder, Spencer Haynie, Jessica Lemaitre, Taylor Spencer, Nathan Spencer, Haylie Spencer, Stephanie Haynie, and Ryan Haynie; and great grandchildren, Bryson Wietholder, Avery Lemaitre, and Blair Wietholder.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; and sister, Darla.
