Daniel Lee Kistler – Services 1/23/23

Daniel Lee Kistler, 69 of Aledo, died Friday, January 20, 2023, at the Great River Hospice House, Burlington, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Monday, January 23, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Aledo. Visitation is 9 to 10:45 a.m., Monday, at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Magdalene Parrish or the Mercer County Autobody Program. Services will be livestreamed on the Speer Funeral Home Facebook Page.

Dan was born on April 4, 1953, in Aledo, Illinois to David Lee and Mary Louise (Rush) Kistler. He was the 21st infant in Mercer County to contract Polio. Dan was a 1971 graduate of Aledo High School. He was previously married to Cindy Lundeen.

Dan retired from General Grind & Machine, Aledo. In his earlier years, he had worked for Deane Frye Incorporated, Frye Builders, and Zenk Excavating. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, especially his 1963 Chevy Nova. Dan loved watching drag racing and even helped in the pits for stock car racing. He was a devoted Green Dragon and then Golden Eagle sports fan, especially football.

Dan cherished his granddaughters and loved to treat himself with ice cream.

Those left to cherish Dan’s memory include his daughter and son-in-law: Carrie Jo and Kevin Shride of Burlington; granddaughters, Quinci, Averi, Marli, and Kirsten; and many cousins, including Sandy and Terry Hank. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Rodney; and a son-in-law, Mike McIntire.
