Orion opened up a ten point half time lead and then held off Mercer County in the second half for a 57-43 victory in boys basketball Wednesday night. The Golden Eagles drew within 50-43 in the fourth quarter but Orion scored the final seven points. Orion was lead by Will Dunlap with 19 points. Owen Relander lead Mercer County with 19. The Golden Eagles close out the 2021 season at United Township on Saturday.
In girls basketball Princeville beat Ridgewood 52-42 and Illini West stopped Monmouth-Roseville 54-44.
Mercer County wrapped up their junior high boys basketball season. In 7th grade play the Golden Eagles beat Knoxville 29-27 and in 8th grade action it was Mercer County over Knoxville 48-33.
