In his early years, Bill worked as an artificial inseminating technician for dairy cattle, including in Mercer County, where he met his wife, the former Marjorie Skinner. They were married on October 5, 1958, at the Aledo United Methodist Church.

Bill and Marjorie came home to Mercer County to farm with her family, and they raised their family on the family farm in Ohio Grove Township. Bill also sold seed corn for many years for Super Crost Seeds. He was currently farming with 3 generations of his family on Stakers Acres.

Bill was strong in his faith and led by example. He put God and family first and enjoyed serving his community for many years. Bill was currently the Supervisor for Ohio Grove Township, an office he held for over 25 years. He had also been on the Aledo School Board, the Regional School Board, and Mercer County Foundation for Health Board and enjoyed singing in the Choir at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Bill never met a stranger, and always had a story to share. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed traveling with Marjorie. They especially enjoyed their trips to the Netherlands, where they were able to visit their “Amsterdam daughter” (foreign exchange student), Heleen van Geldren and husband, Onno.
