Barbara Ann Ehrenhart – Private Burial

Barbara Ann Ehrenhart, 81 of Aledo, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Mercer Manor Rehabilitation. Private burial will be held.

Barbara Ann Theobald was born February 21, 1942, in Peoria, IL, the first born of four children, to Lawrence John and Mavis (Wheeler/Carr) Theobald. She attended her entire eight years of grade school in a 2-room school house that was also attended by her father, in Monica, IL. She graduated from Princeville Community High School, Princeville, IL, in 1960; Peoria School of Practical Nursing in 1961; and Carl Sandburg College Associate Degree Nursing (RN), Galesburg, IL, in 1975, where she received the highest honors award in her class.

Barbara met Fred Ehrenhart while they were both nursing students in Peoria. They were married on June 24, 1962, in London Mills, IL, at the United Methodist Church.

Barbara was employed at St. Francis Children’s Hospital in Peoria first as an aide, to support herself during training, then as an LPN, from 1960-1962. Barbara assisted Fred in the operation of his privately owned 16-bed London Nursing Home in London Mills from June 1962 until it closed in November 1963. She worked at Methodist Hospital in Peoria for a brief time, then at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galesburg from 1964-1966. She was employed by her husband at both Avon Nursing Home 1966-1970 and then at Mercer County Nursing Home 1975-1979. She worked one year at Monmouth Hospital, then at Mercer County Hospital in Aledo for 17 years, the last 5 ½ years as a home care nurse. Following Fred’s death on July 19, 1998, she was employed six years at Community Medical Center in Monmouth, retiring in 2005.

Barbara dedicated her entire life to nurturing and making a home for her two daughters and her husband and sharing his love of nursing, and especially the elderly. With the birth of her four grandchildren, she became a proud and devoted grandmother, spending many hours babysitting them and being involved in their school and sport activities.

Barbara was a member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church where she served as both an Elder and a Deacon. She was a member and officer of Mercer County Business and Professional Women for twenty years, then helped in the organization of Mercer County Women for Women in 2002 and served as an officer in that organization, also. She served as Secretary for Mercer County Current History Forum for several years.

Barbara is survived by two daughters: Mary Beth and James Sackville and Carol Sue Butcher, and four grandchildren, Zane (Jenna) Sackville of Aledo, Jill Sackville of Philo, IL, and Brandon and Blake Butcher, of Aledo.
