Keithsburg, IL — Congratulations to Gerald “Grandpa Jerry” Slagel of Keithsburg, honored as the May Farm Strong Winner by CBI Bank & Trust and Farm Country 102.3 WRMJ.
With more than five decades of dedication to farming, Slagel is a beloved figure in the Keithsburg community, where he’s known simply as “Grandpa Jerry.” WRMJ surprised him recently with a $100 gift from CBI Bank & Trust and a Farm Strong hat in recognition of his hard work and contributions to local agriculture.
“I guess it’s been more than 50 years…” Slagel said, recalling his lifelong commitment to the farm.
Slagel and his family have long been involved in providing fresh produce to area grocery stores. “My son was the main one, but we worked together,” he shared. “We’ve provided produce for a lot of stores.” His children were part of the operation as well.
The Farm Strong program, sponsored by CBI Bank & Trust and WRMJ, is designed to recognize farmers who embody resilience, dedication, and community spirit. Gerald Slagel certainly fits the bill.
