On today’s episode of Focus, we welcomed Jeanne Conaway from “High Roads Advantage,” a program making significant impacts on young adults in the community. Jeanne joined the organization in 2020 as a Student Support Specialist during a complete staff turnover. Since its inception in 1999, High Roads Advantage has been committed to workforce development, helping individuals overcome barriers to employment, particularly through GED completion.
Jeanne emphasized the program’s mission of removing barriers to employment, such as the lack of a high school diploma. While not intended to replace traditional high school, High Roads Advantage offers a lifeline for those who, due to life’s circumstances, are unable to finish high school in the conventional setting. The program also focuses on employability skills, fostering a workplace-like and supportive “home” environment to empower its students.
Jeanne explained that High Roads Advantage goes beyond academics, incorporating lessons on work readiness and even providing driver’s courses for enrolled students who meet specific performance criteria. With a small, dedicated team, including instructor Katie, they ensure students feel safe and supported.
