Shirley was born November 2, 1944, in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Roy E. and La Vella M. Smith Davis. She attended Keithsburg and Westmer schools. In 1963 she married Edwin Hills, they later divorced. On April 25, 1970, she married Loren Coppes. They were married 34 years until he passed away on February 10, 2005. During their time together they enjoyed gardening, boating, camping, and sitting on the front porch waving at everyone as they drove by. Shirley worked as Assistant Postmaster at the Seaton Post Office, and as a Loan Officer at Three I Credit Union in Burlington, Iowa. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Keithsburg. In her free time, she enjoyed baking, playing cards and dominos, and was always up for a game of corn hole. For the last several years, she spent winters in Florida with her fiancé Jim Moffitt. This community became her second family whom she adored. The couple enjoyed riding bicycles together, going to concerts, and hosting Taco Tuesdays with friends. Shirley devoted her whole life to her family. Her kindness and compassion knew no boundaries. She loved with her whole heart and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Shirley’s greatest joy was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
