Danny Wakeland, 69, formerly of New Boston, died Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at his home. A Memorial Service and Celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 25, at the New Boston Community Center with a luncheon immediately following. A special service will be held at the Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church of Washington, Illinois, at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 26. Memorial donations can be made to Karen Wakeland to assist with final expenses.
Danny was born on September 5, 1954, to Joseph and Wilma (Kaufman) Wakeland. He was raised in New Boston with his three sisters and one brother, who survive him: Sandra (Chuck) Pierce, Jeri (Earl) Brown, Teri Wakeland (Pete), and Ricky Wakeland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Lori (Vince) Huston, who he loved as his “sister.”
Danny married the love of his life, Karen Ryan, who survives him, on June 29, 1974. Together, Danny and Karen raised one son, Jeremy Wakeland, who survives him. Danny enjoyed spending time with his wife and son. He especially loved fishing and hunting with his son and later his grandson, Anthony (Kelsey) Wakeland, who survives him. Danny also leaves behind two great granddaughters, Gentry and Miranda Wakeland, who brought a new level of joy to his life.
Danny was proceeded in death by his parents (Joseph and Wilma); father-in-law, Donald Ryan; and two brothers-in-law, Mike and Rick Ryan.
