Aledo’s New Rep In Congress Among Republican Group Blocking McCarthy For Speaker

Aledo’s new representation in Congress having an impact on the next Speaker of the House selection. And there’s still no Speaker following a second day of voting. The House adjourned Wednesday night and will reconvene at noon Thursday. Republicans remain deadlocked as a group of conservatives, including U.S. Rep. Mary Miller, continue to deny Kevin McCarthy the votes needed to secure the Speakership. Lawmakers opposed to McCarthy don’t appear to be budging as the Republican leader has yet to gain any yes votes over multiple ballots.

Miller, of the 15th Congressional District, now represents Aledo and the western portion of Mercer County because of redistricting. She is from Oakland, Illinois.
