Aledo City Council Talks Impact Of Recreational Marijuana; New Law Takes Effect Jan. 1

Local governments are making preparations as the Illinois recreational marijuana law is set to take effect on January 1. The Aledo City Council discussed the issue this week with City Attorney Mark Walton.

Walton says the law also allows for expungement of criminal records regarding convictions on small amounts of marijuana. He says that will create some challenges .

And what about the public consumption aspect of the new law?

Again, the recreational marijuana law takes effect January 1. It allows Illinois residents who are 21 and older to possess up to 30 grams of cannabis flower, 5 grams of concentrate and 500 milligrams of THC in products such as edibles.
