Byron (11-0) outscored Sherrard (11-2) 10-2 in overtime to win the championship of the inaugural Mike Hutchins Holiday Classic at Sherrard High School Friday, 45-37.
James Blackwell scored a basket for Sherrard at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime.
Byron’s Ryan Tucker was the game’s leading scorer with 15 points.
Rylan Carton led Sherrard with nine points.
Mercer County (9-5) defeated Kewanee (8-5) in the semifinals of the Cliff Warkins Memorial Classic Friday, 68-64.
The Golden Eagles trailed 30-24 at halftime and never held a lead in the first half. Mercer County outscored Kewanee 17-10 in the third quarter to take a 41-40 lead heading into the fourth.
Lucas Collison scored 20 points in the win. Carson Boelens added 15 points off the bench for Mercer County and Colby Cox had 13 points.
The Golden Eagles went 22-32 from the free throw line.
Kewanee’s Brady Clark poured in 29 points in the loss. Blaise Lewis added 22 for the Boilermakers.
Mercer County plays Beecher (15-0) in the championship game Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. The Bobcats beat Riverdale (11-3), 78-71, Friday.
Rockridge (10-3) advanced to the semifinals of the Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament with a 48-36 win over Farmington (6-5) Friday.
Carson Klemme led the Rockets with 12 points. Caleb Cunico was also in double figures for Rockridge with 10 points.
The Rockets will play West Hancock (11-2) in the semifinals Saturday at 1 p.m.
