For the first time ever, the Mercer County High School girls basketball program claimed a holiday tournament championship in a 43-42 come-from-behind win over Wethersfield in the title game of the Cliff Warkins Memorial Classic in Prophetstown on Tuesday.
Golden Eagles sophomore Shadia Williams, who was named tournament MVP, poured in 19 points to lead Mercer County (15-1) to the win.
Lana Scott scored a game-high 26 points for the Flying Geeese (9-5) in the loss.
