Mercer County Health Department announced today that as of today, December 2021 will be the highest month on record for positive covid cases in Mercer County since the beginning of testing during the pandemic.
“The total number of positives recorded thus far is 467 for the month of December 2021,” states Carla Ewing, Administrator. Ewing states, “This surpasses the month of November 2020 with 437 positives noted. Interestingly, the previous highest month was during a time with no vaccine available, unlike now. We are pleased to see that the case numbers for the 65+ population remain relatively low compared to the other two categories. We believe that is because that population has a high percentage fully vaccinated and many have received their booster shots as well.”
According to data recorded by MCHD, the week of November 12-18, 2021 holds the record for the most positives recorded in one week with 126. All statistical data can be viewed on the Mercer County Health Department at mchdil.com.
The Mercer County Health Department would like to remind all that vaccine clinics are held at the Health Department on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please call for an appointment at 309-582-3759. They are completely free of charge.
