A local nonprofit is launching a fundraiser supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Mercer County Better Together (MCBT) is putting on its first “Reading Is a Gift” Readathon, which encourages readers to collect pledges based on the number of pages they read throughout the month, says MCBT Executive Director Kyle McEwen.
The money raised will go directly to MCBT’s facilitation of the Imagination Library program, which provides an age-appropriate book every month for children from birth to five-years-old who are enrolled in the program. McEwen says there have been around 800 kids who have taken part in the program since it launched in Mercer County seven years ago.
Participants can register at the Viola Public Library, New Windsor Public Library, or the Edwards River Public Library in Aledo. Donations can also be made here.
The fundraiser opened earlier this month and runs through July 27.
