Marty J. Frakes, 65 of Viola, Illinois, died Monday, July 31, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer. A memorial visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, August 5, followed by a memorial service at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Memorials may be left for the family.
Marty Jo was born September 18, 1957, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Jerry and Audrey Drake Frakes. The 1975 graduate of Winola High School went on to marry Lori Larkins in 1977, they later divorced. On May 23, 2002, he married Teresa Burton in Aledo. Marty had worked overseas in the maritime industry. While with the merchant marines he visited many countries, mostly in Asia, South Pacific, and Caribbean.
Marty worked at Wheeler Lumber and General Grind, and after retiring he worked part-time at Huffman’s and for Stead Farms. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and reading. He loved sports, from playing them to watching them.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Teresa Frakes of Viola and siblings: Bob and Kim Frakes of Matherville and Janet and Bill Bodeen of Viola.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Rick Frakes; and son: Joshua James Frakes.
