Aledo Moving Forward With Downtown DMV Location

Just over a year after Aledo’s driver services facility closed its doors, the city is moving forward with a new location.

An intergovernmental agreement between the City of Aledo and the Illinois Secretary of State was approved by the Aledo City Council on Monday for parking at the facility. The ordinance lists 129 E Main St., which is the former Appleton Law Office, as the location.

The agreement approved will allow the Secretary of State to use the adjacent city-owned parking lot at the corner of NE 2nd St. and NE 2nd Ave. for customer and employee parking during business hours.

Aledo officials directed any request for comment to the Secretary of State’s Office, but did indicate during the meeting that an official announcement is expected later this week. An opening date for the new facility was not discussed.

The previous Aledo DMV location closed last June after the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office said it was unable to reach an agreement with its landlord on a new lease.
