Sherrard, Riverdale Win Boys Golf Regionals

The Sherrard Tigers won the IHSA Class 1A boys golf regional championship at Valley View Golf Club in Cambridge Wednesday. The Tigers team score, 338, was 18 strokes better than second place Ridgewood, 356. United and Mercer County each shot 357 to tie for third. The Red Storm won the tiebreaker over the Golden Eagles to move on to the sectional. The top three teams advance to Monday’s sectional at Fyre Lake Golf Club.

Jacob Fratzke paced Sherrard by shooting an 82 to tie for second place. Wade Conner and Caden West also were inside the top ten individually for the Tigers, tying for 10th place with scores of 85.

Brendan Bolduc, tie for sixth, and Matt Maher, ninth, led Ridgewood. United had two players tie for sixth place as well, Luke Jungmann and Carson Horner.

Elmwood’s Tanner Wake finished first with a score of 78.

Local players who qualified for the sectional individually were Mercer County’s Carson Boelens and Mark Graves, West Central’s Ethan Nichols, ROWVA-Williamsfield’s Preston Lafary, Stark County’s Jimmy Langdon, Rockridge’s Jackson Hofer, and A-Town’s Alex Foutch.

Riverdale earned the IHSA Class 1A boys golf regional title at Byron Hills Golf Course in Port Byron Wednesday. The Rams team score, 298, put them ahead of second place Fulton, 311, and third place Bureau Valley, 328. The top three teams advanced to Monday’s sectional at Fyre Lake Golf Club.

The Rams had the top two individuals at the regional with Aidan Dorathy taking first place with a 69. Riverdale teammate Mason Smyser shot 70 to finish second.

Local players who qualified for the sectional individually were Newman’s Logan Palmer, Chase Decker, and Liam Nicklaus and Erie-Prophetstown’s Caden VanHorn.
