Rockets Denied Repeat Trip To State

The Rockridge Rockets were denied a repeat trip to state as Morrison rallied for a 9-6 win at the Class 2A East Peoria Super-Sectional Monday afternoon.  Rockridge jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, two coming on a Daria Parchert home run.  Morrison quickly recovered with a six run second inning, three of which came on a Jaeden Workman home run.  Rockridge tied the game in the fourth when Parchert went deep once again.  But Workman answered with her second home run of the game, a two run shot, to put the Fillies back on top 8-6.  Morrison added an insurance run in the 7th.  Lauren Rice overcame a shaky start allowing just one hit after the third inning to get the win.  Amelia Thomas, who came on in relief of Maddie Bayne in the second, took the loss.  Rockridge ended the season at 31-7 while Morrison advances to the state semi-finals with a 22-2 record where they will face Beecher, a 9-5 winner over Tri-City.
