Sherrard and Mercer County both claimed IHSA 1A girls track and field sectional championships on Wednesday.
The Tigers won their fourth sectional championship in the last five years with a team score of 102.5 at the 1A Erie Sectional. Sherrard finished 12 points ahead of second-place Fulton (90). Riverdale took third at the sectional, scoring 84.
Sherrard is sending 13 events to the state meet, including Saidie Shemek and Jasmine McDaniel in the discus, Aliza Dominique in the pole vault, Khloe Kunz in the pole vault, 100-meter hurdles, and 300-meter hurdles, Cami Anderson in the high jump, Anna Chruchill in the 800 and 1600, the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 relays (Anderson, Sophia Bradarich, Dominique, Piper Russell), and the 4×800 relay (Kammie Swanson, Tori Browning, Kylie Mathis, Churchill).
2026 marked Sherrard’s 17th sectional championship since 2002.
State qualifiers for Rockridge include Aryanna Stahr in the 300-meter hurdles, Kenzie Meyer in the pole vault, the 4×200 relay (Taylor Freyermuth, Stahr, Lauren Oetgen, Leah DeCook), and the 4×400 relay (Freyermuth, DeCook, Oetgen, Claire Mills).
For Orion, Savanah Streeter advanced to state in the high jump and 100-meter hurdles.
Mercer County won its second straight girls track and field sectional championship by scoring 115 at the 1A Farmington Sectional. The Golden Eagles finished 27.75 points clear of runner-up Henry-Senachwine (87.75).
Mercer County has 11 events moving on to state meet, including Leah Collison in the high jump, Brenna Heinrichs in the discus, Tessa Morrison and Kyla Blaser in the triple jump, Emalyn Millar in the 1600 and 3200, Alayna Mitchell in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles, Brookelyn Clark and Helen Baldwin in the 800, the 4×100 relay (Harper Bysinger, Morrison, Sarah Hofmann, Mitchell), the 4×400 realy (Baldwin, Clark, Blaser, Mitchell), and the 4×800 relay (Millar, Clark, Jorgi Arnold, Baldwin).
