UPDATE: Pregnant Mercer County Meth Defendant Gives Birth While In IDOC Custody

An update on a pregnant Mercer County meth defendant. The woman, 28 year old Kelsey Kidd of Preemption gave birth earlier this week while in custody at the Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln, according to Mercer County State’s Attorney Meeghan Lee and Mercer County Sheriff Dave Staley. Lee confirms the child is in DCFS custody. Kidd was sentenced to two years in prison last week in a 2016 methamphetamine case. She was originally placed on 24-months’ probation, but violated the terms by testing positive for meth—most recently in late July.  This marks her second stint in prison, also serving time for burglary.
