Spivey Honored For His Service On Black Hawk College Board

A New Windsor area farmer honored by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association. Steve Spivey has been a longtime member of the Black Hawk College Board of Trustees. He has received the Ray Hartstein Trustee Achievement Award, which recognizes extraordinary board service and leadership by an Illinois community college trustee. It is named after Ray Hartstein, the founding chair of Oakton Community College, a two-term ICCTA president and an ICCTA honorary member.

Spivey has been involved with Black Hawk College for most of his life, beginning as an agriculture student and continuing as a trustee and foundation director. His 23 years of board service encompass two separate terms and 12 years as board chair. During his tenure, he has guided the college through several presidential transitions and multiple improvements to the district.

Spivey has served on the board longer than any trustee in the college’s history.
