Rockets Rally To Win Over Saints

The Rockridge Rockets gave up 18 unanswered points but were able to regroup and rally for a 27-18 win over Bloomington Central Catholic in the second round of the IHSA Class 2A playoffs in Bloomington.  Rockridge jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 11:21 left in the first quarter when Alex Zarlatanes broke off a 66 yard run and then punched it in on the next play. Early in the second quarter the Rockets went on a 99 yard drive capped off by a Peyton Locke 18 yard touchdown run for a 14-0 lead with 11:00 left in the half.  The Saints then countered with a touchdown with 4:37 left in the half as the Rockets lead 14-6 at the half.  Central Catholic went on a 90 yard drive in three plays in the third quarter and the two point conversion failed and the Rockets lead 14-12 with 5:13 left.  The Saints took the lead for the first time in the game 18-14 with 1:06 left in the quarter.  Rockridge retook the lead with 9:55 left in the game on a 52 yard run by Peyton Locke and with Austin VandeGeest’s kick the Rockets lead 21-18.  Rockridge put the game away when Peyton Locke once again broke free on a 60 yard touchdown run with 1:55 left.

Rockridge advances to the quarterfinals where they will meet Maroa-Forsyth, a 42-6 winner over Farmington.  Rockridge will host the game next Saturday.

In other local playoff action Saturday in Class 2A, Knoxville beat Bismark-Henning-Rossville-Alvin 48-29.

In Class 1A top ranked Lena-Winslow blasted Rowva-Williamsfield 76-7.  Futon was a 28-0 over Rockford Lutheran.  In 3A Princeton beat Genoa-Kingston 26-2.
