WRMJ Audio Archives: Remembering Sandy Stinson; Helped Lead Push For Stand Alone YMCA In Mercer County

A former Aledo woman, who played a key role in bringing a stand alone YMCA facility to Mercer County, has passed away. Sandy Stinson was 73. She died June 28th. A memorial service is planned for July 13th in Westchester, Illinois. Stinson helped lead a capital campaign that led to the construction of the Mercer County Family YMCA in 1992, where she served as executive director. From the WRMJ archives, Stinson spoke to WRMJ the first day the facility opened on December 14th, 1992.

Prior to the current YMCA facility, Y-programs were held above Aledo City Hall. In her passing, Stinson’s family is asking that memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Mercer County Family YMCA Capital Fund in Memory of Sandy Stinson.
