WIU Wins Google Impact Challenge For Small Town Grocery Store Effort

The Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs (IIRA) at Western Illinois University was one of the winners of the Google Impact Challenge.  The IIRA was recognized as one of 10 non-profit organizations in the state of Illinois with the most innovative projects creating economic opportunity.  The winning project from IIRA assists small towns in opening grocery stores.  John Gruidl, economic development specialist for IIRA explains.

As one of the Google winners, the IIRA will receive $75,000 and training from the Google team to jump start it’s ideas.  IIRA and WIU now has the opportunity to receive an additional $250,000 from Google for the People’s Choice Award, which is given to the project that receives the most public votes.  You can vote by clicking here.
