White Case Continued Due To Conflict With Judge

April 7th, 2014

whiteA change of venue and bond reduction hearing has been continued for Viola homicide suspect William White. The matter was scheduled to be heard this morning in Mercer County County Circuit Court, but Judge Frank Fuhr recused himself from the proceeding because of his prior representation of the defendant. White is facing separate Class 3 felonies of threatening a public official and driving while license revoked–both charges filed last December. The threatening a public official charge accuses White of making threats against Mercer County Public Defender Dan Dalton. And White also has 13 prior driving while revoked convictions. Both new charges are extendable by up to 10-years in prison upon conviction. He has been deemed “a person of interest” in the death of his estranged wife, 39 year old Melissa White, but has not been charged in the case. She died of skull fractures at her Viola home in October of 2011. White was sentenced to four-years in prison in January of 2012 on a felony driving while revoked conviction, a charge unrelated to the homicide investigation. He is now in custody at the Mercer County Jail on $150,000 bond.
