Thompson Says Mercer County Needs Two Detectives

December 5th, 2013

thompsonRetiring Mercer County Sheriff Tom Thompson says the Mercer County Board is making a huge mistake by not filling a detective position. There had been two detectives in the department for about ten years, but Bill Glancey is retiring December 13th–and he is not being replaced. Thompson says that’s a bad move.

Glancey is expected to be appointed sheriff on January 7th to fill out Thompson’s term through December of 2014. Thompson is retiring effective December 20th. Chief Deputy Jeff Dale will serve as interim sheriff until the Glancey appointment is approved by the county board. Thompson is hopeful Dale or Glancey can get the second detective position reinstated.
